Summer Programs
Summer Days
(Age: 6-12)
The Summer Days program consists of supervised summer activities that include arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor recreation, computer usage, academic enrichment and field trips.
The Summer Fun program consists of high interest field trips to beaches, New York City, zoo, plays, movies, recreational sports, picnics, museums and boat trips.
The Summer Nights program consists of field trips to Sunken Meadow Beach. Activities include volleyball, basketball, roller blading, handball, hockey, music and dancing.

YES services youth and their families residing in Bay Shore, Brentwood, Central Islip and West Islip.  All programs and services are free of charge.  YES targets the general youth population (up to age 21) with a special emphasis on hard-to-reach and at-risk youth.

After School Programs
YES offers after school programs for middle school students attending the following schools:


Activities include homework help, a wellness center, tutoring, study groups, dance, arts & crafts, music, cooking, recreation, high interest field trips, guest speakers etc.

see the YES representative at your child's middle school for more information on how to enroll! 

Each site benefits from a parent/youth advisory council.
A daily after-school program Monday through Friday 2:30 - 5:30pm.  Activities include: homework help, snack, high interest field trip, dance, sports, arts and crafts, computers, discussion groups guest speakers, tutoring and more!  Open enrollment, Parents pick up by 5:30pm.

Tutoring/
Homework Help
YES offers an individualized tutoring program at the following locations from 6-8PM:

Volunteers serve as tutors/mentors under the supervision of YES Staff.
Employment Related Programs
Working closely with the Suffolk County Department of Labor (SCDOL), YES conducts workshop series throughout the year that prepare youth for employment.  Youth benefit by use of SCDOL resources to identify employment opportunities and by YES referrals.
Work Readiness Initiative
(Age: 14-21)
Mentoring
Mentors and youth establish year-long one-to-one e-mentoring  relationships.

E-mail is monitored by YES personnel.
Central Islip Schools Extended School Day/Violence Prevention
YES provides the violence prevention component in this 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade after-school program in the Central Islip School District.  Topics include building positive self-esteem, decision making, healthy choices, anger management, violence prevention, conflict resolution, grief and loss, drop-out prevention, self awareness, acceptance of diversity, etc.
Community Programs
YES sponsors a youth volunteer corps that provides community service to the children, senior citizens, disabled, and the less fortunate.  Service includes community clean ups and improvement, tutoring, yard work, snow shoveling, assistance to other non-profit and community organizations, fundraising, etc.

(WAVE)
Youth Advisory Councils
(Age: 12-20)
Each community has its own council with 8 - 10 members.  The councils meet monthly to discuss youth and community issues, plan trips, develop programs and make recommendations to the YES Board of Directors and staff.

Youth board members are selected from the four Youth Advisory Councils.
Community Education
YES provides workshops for parents and community organizations.  Workshops cover parenting skills, sibling rivalry, anger management, diversity, discipline, homework habits, study skills, etc.

Recreation Programs
Coffee House
This monthly Friday night event allows youth to "chill" with their friends while listening or dancing to live music.
Chat
Youth discussion groups focus on youth related and general interest issues such as anger management, conflict resolution, violence prevention, careers, colleges, parental conflict, self-esteem, decision making, values clarification, grief and loss, eating disorders, HIV/AIDS and STD's, multiculturalism, world events, current events, etc.
Referral and Advocacy
YES exists to serve youth and their families in Bay Shore, Brentwood, Central Islip, and West Islip. We will listen and, if you wish, refer you to the appropriate social service agencies.
Natural Helpers
This high school based program trains students "identified" by other students as someone they speak to when troubled. Students participate in an annual training and attend weekly meetings.
Drop-In Lounge
A supervised area is provided that allow youth to gather in small groups to talk, listen to the radio, and play board games.
Open Gym
A school gyms will be open once a week as follows:
Bay Shore  - Thursday              7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Brentwood  - Tuesday               7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Central Islip - Wednesday        7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
YMCA Teen Center
Youth are transported to the Great South Bay YMCA Teen Center on Saturday evenings and supervised by YES Staff.
Youth Enrichment Services
     Serving the Communities of Bay Shore, Brentwood, Central Islip and West Islip
A weekly program held on Saturdays, 10:00am - 2:00pm.  Activities include: academics, high interest field trips, dance, sports, arts and crafts, recreation and more!  Open to all areas that YES services, held at the Central Islip Senior Center.  Grades: 1 - 4.

YES/Central Islip 21st Century Life Skills and Workforce Readiness
YES/United Way YouthBuild
Program designed for young adults, ages 18-24 to help obtain their GED and equip them with the skills they need to get a job or go on to college upon graduation.  Young adults enrolled in the program receive onsite construction training.  YouthBuild Long Island’s core focus is Education, Youth Development, Job Placement and Transformation.  

Youth Leadership
Project
Designed for special needs young adults ages 16-26 in need of socialization, advocacy skills, leadership skills, work readiness training, independent living skills and community involvment.  Students will meet with a mentor once weekly during the program to work on these skills. Program takes place on Monday and Thursday from 2:30 - 6:00pm for two sessions each meeting day.
Program is designed to provide workshops in life skills and job readiness for first time job seekers.
The program includes strategies to develop and use a portfolio, get a job, internships and admission to higher education or advanced training programs.  This after school program runs weekly on Tuesday and Thursday at the Central Islip High School.
